The Founding and Purpose of IMCKC

In 1996, four of Kansas City's most influential spiritual leaders came together to found a center dedicated to the practice of Western-style Buddhism. Ben Worth created the American Buddhist Center, which has become the Insight Meditation Center of Kansas City, and is now under the direction of Robert Brumet.

Mission Statement: The Insight Meditation Center of Kansas City strives to be a conscious community where the practitioner of a Buddhist lifestyle may find connection, acceptance, service opportunities and growth through Sunday service, classes, workshops, and retreats.

DEI Statement: Equity, diversity and inclusion are integral aspects of our living dharma. We are committed to staying mindful and aware of the presence of systemic racism and other prejudicial ‘isms’ in our society and to not perpetuate those patterns.

Indigenous Lands Statement: The Board of Directors and the members of the Insight Meditation Center of Kansas City acknowledge that our corporation operates on Kaw/Kansa indigenous lands in Osage ancestral territory. We honor the people and their traditions by promoting practices that care for the earth, the environment, and all sentient beings.
